HEAD-ON COLLISION

HAWKE’S BAY TRAGEDY. ONE DEAD; THREE INJURED Per Press Association. HASTINGS. April 12. One man was killed and three persons were seriously injured in a headon collision between two cars on the Napier-Hastings road at 6.15 on Saturday evening. The. victims are:— DEAD. ARTHUR PERRY, aged 40; head, chest and internal injuries. He died two hours after entering hospital. INJURED. MRS BEIT, compound fracture of the right arm, injuries to face and extensive scalp wounds; condition critical. DAVID BETT, aged 23, fractured jaw and injuries to the right eye; condition seripus. JESSIE BETT, head and face injuries ; conditiofi serious. All the victims reside at 37 Enuni Street, Wellington, and were on holiday. The accident happened about three miles from Napier. The ear containing the victims was of a baby type, and the other car was . a heavy roadster, containing Mr Moss Wylie, dentist, and Mr Allen Kerr, bank clerk, or Hastings, who, although injured, were able to proceed to their homes. The light ear was forced right over, a fence skirting the railway line, four fence posts being snapped off. The two cars became* locked together. A man working nearby heard the crash and rushed to investigate. He found one of the occupants lying half out of the ear and unable to extricate himself. A passing lorry rendered assistance. A doctor was summoned and the injured were removed to Napier Hospital.' The engine of the small car was pushed under the windscreen and the car was a total wreck. The heavier car was also badly wrecked. YOUNG MAN KILLED. Per Press Association. » HASTINGS, April 12. A young man, Ralph Haymes, a farm labourer, was accidentally killed on Saturday afternoon when the motorcycle he was riding collided with a car driven by Mr A. R. Perkin, of Waipawa, on the Waipawa-Tikokino Road.
