ANCIENT EGYPT
MOST REMARKABLE FINDS. TOMB -5500 YEARS OLD. THEORIES REVOLUTIONISED. (United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received April 13, 10.20 a.m. LONDON, April 12. The Sun-Herald Service says the discovery of a 5500-year-old secret tomb and chambers close to the Sakkara step pyramid yields a wonderful picture of the art and industry of ancient Egypt and will result in tlie rewriting of the history of the earliest civilisation. Already 42 chambers have been discovered by a young English archaeologist, Mr W. B. Emery. They are 2000 years older than Tutankhamen’s, containing mummies, inlaid boxes evidently intended for a game similar to chess and draughts, enormous flint knives still as sharp ns razors, lengths of rope, and perfectly preserved ivory and bronze discs with hunting scenes. Inlaid storerooms contain scores of stone jars once filled with meat and grain for the dead, with a complete set of dishes, plates, and cupg'. The chapel is flanked by columns ante-dating the Doric columns by 1500 years. The discovery revolutionises the theories of early Greek as well as Egypt ia n areliitectu re. The majority, of tho chambers are still unopened and further remarkable finds are expected.
