(From Our Own Correspondent.) OPIKI, April 7. The usual monthly meeting of the School Committco was held on Monday evening, there being a full attendance of the committee. The headmistress reported on the satisfactory nature of recent work earned out in the grounds. Mr Dwyer (agricultural instructor for the Wellington Boaiu) visited the school during the month and reported favourably oil Uie condition of the grounds and gardens. Correspondence included a copy of the board’s specifications for repairing the storm damage. Several accounts' were passed for payment, including expenditure on maintenance work. The cash book and balance-sheets have been returned from the board’s audit department and satisfaction was expressed at the state of the oonnhittee’s finances. Although the credit balance is quite a considerable one, the committee have been rather handicapped with regard to raising funds for special purposes during the past two years, and the credit balance in the,special account is particularly low. 'lho incoming committee will be faced with the immediate necessity of raising funds, tor- such purposes as supplying cocoa during the winter months and for their share of the dental clinic expenditure. Before . closing the meeting, the chairman expressed his sincere appreciation of the work of members during the committee’s period of office and of their earnest co-operation in regard to ail school matters, concluding with an appeal to members to again offer their services to the school and the community at the" forthcoming householders’ meeting. , , , ~, „ The Ladies’ Sports Club played the first practice game cf basketball on Tuesday afternoon, when quite a satisfactory munber of players arrived on the. scene and everybody is looking forward with keen expectation to some hard practice before the association matches begin Tuesday was the opening night of the ping pong and judging by the number of young players wdio came ping pong is growdng to prove more popular than ever this winter.
