She should he prominent in her Easter engagements. Anion, a half-brother to Ammon Ivß, is engaged in the Champagne Stakes at Ellerslie and with Gallio and Stretto not starters he should take a bit of stopp.ng at the finish. . . Soloist, who lias been paid up for in the Brighton Hurdles, has the steadiei of 12.3 in the Ellerslie big jumping event. He carried 12.0 at Te Arolia and simply walked away from bis opponents over the last bit, . Queen of Song, the AVollmgton Cup winner, is to race at Riverton in the cup on Easter Saturday. It is likely she will then be taken to Riccarton to contest the Great Autumn on Tuesday. It is understood that this double has never previously been attempted. Galileo is expected to take her place in the Oaks at Ellerslie. She was a good two-yoar-old, but at three years her record is not impressive, for apart from two wins she has been unplaced in each of her other five starts. It will be interesting to see how she shapes over a mile and ahalf in the Oaks. Kilbcris, who is fancied in some quarters for the Easter Handicap at Auckland, in his last eleven starts lias been in the money six times for three wins, one sgcji d, and two thirds. His last success was fitPaeroa, when the field he heat was weak and he subsequently failed twice at Tauranga. * • , , Silver Streak, who lias shown outstanding form over sprint coureses and up to a mile this season, is paid up for at Auckland but he will do his Paster racing at Riccarton. Both will bo racing over Easter and as both aie very .well iust now they, should add to their records.

The Grasper has-not done any racing for some time, but ho nearly brought off a big surprise at Hastings by running Silver Song to half a head in the Autumn Handicap! Spiral showed a return to form at Trentham and Awapuni and he is - likely to be seen to ‘ advantage at Ellcrslie. He carried 8.3 when ho won the President’s Handicap at Trentham, and 8.13 in the Tamateto Handicap at Awapuni. He is now asked to carry 8.11 in the Easter Handicap, and though this field is a very good one, ho should not be disgraced. Nun Nicer, a. fancied candidate for the Easier Handicap tft Ellerslie, recorded a first and second at Avondale in the spring, and later at Te Rapa ho won a double. He was successful at Te Arolia, on the _ first, day, missed on the second, and again at Pukokohe. He has won, over eleven furlongs and as ho always' takes a forward position early in his races lie should see out a very solid mile. * One of the titbits at Auckland will bo the meeting of Entail and Greek Shepherd in the Great Northern St. Legor. At Trentham in the New Zoitland St. Legcr Entail scored from the Riccarton colt by half a. head. Next day Greek Shepherd won the Autumn Handicap, but Entail was not in tlio field. The pair met again in the Awapuni Cup and Greek Shepherd turned the tables on the Posterity gelding. I!..nice their meeting in Auckland is being eagerly awaited. Lady Graceful, who is trained at Riccarton by Mrs J. Campbell, lias the best form of the fillies who comprise the Great Northern Oaks field. Iler most attractive performance to dato was her success in the New Zealand Oaks at Riccarton in November, and though she is not brilliant she is likely to be the best of the Auckland field. Entheos, a double winner at Trentham, has been paid up for in the Eden Handicap at Ellerslie, and the Gainscourt —Enthusiasm gelding has only to be at his best to run out a solid mile. Shy, who claims an engagement in the same race, was fourth in the Tasman Hack Handicap at Trentham, won by Pakanui, with Chief Ranger and Hunting Mars next. Heads separated the four of them. N’ghtfoi'm (Poland —Pollyform), winner of the Waimatc Cup in which he was making his 'first appearance for some time, contested 27 races last season for four wins, five seconds, and six thirds. Included in his successes was the Waimatc Cup twelve months ago. It is expected that Nightform will race at Riverton over Easter and he should give a good account of himself in the Cup. Mrs J. Campbell has left Riccarton for Auckland with the Great Northern Oaks candidate Lady Graceful. F. C. Pratt is also on liis way north with Epris, a southern hope for the Easier Handicap. The Shambles—Jeanette gelding won seven times last season, and started the present season with a great victory in the Winter Cup. WESTPORT RACES. GOLDEN DART WINS CHIEF EVEN!’. Per Press Association. SUCCESS AT WANGANUI. FINE PROSPECTS FOR MANAWATU. (By Abaydos.) It is" many a day since so much interest has been disp la y° cl hi the tr °tting sport m Waganui as that scon at the meeting which' concluded on Saturday. The record crowd were enthusiastic about the fine racing, and speculation was so keen that the totalisator showed an increase of a Kittle better than £2OOO, a handsome return. This pleasing result demonstrates that the public is at last, realising the excellent qualities of trotting as a sport, and also appreciates the efforts of the clubs on the West Coast to cater for the useful class of pacers and trotters. What was accomplished at W'angamti is ail indication of what can be expected at the Manawatu meeting, where the horses which raced at Wanganui will again moot, while the addition of several others will add to the interest. The Manawatu Club’s patrons can look forward with confidence .to some spectacular and thrilling racing. Baron Grand, excellently handled by A. Garnett, son of the well-known Ashhurst trainer, 11. Garnett, won the Improvers Handicap on Saturday like a good colt. Ho was always bandy and outstayed Dusky Chum, who ran a fine race. Activity was third. < As Kraal surprised in the mile and a half trot the first day, so did King Franz in the Borough Trot, and lie paid a good double figure price, lie led all the way and won easily from Native Tree, who is having bad iuck. Tccla, who may win soon, was third. , Good driving by Smith, assisted by the fine staying powers of ‘his charge, got Baron Alfonso homo, in the Suburban Handicap from Great Chum, who loci practically all the way. Waving Corn, who covered a lot of ground, was third. Ironside proved his value as a stayer by coming again at the right end to cut the consistent Treasure Bond down in the Liverpool Handicap, with Roekella third. The same three filled the places the previous Saturday, but Ironside, who was back another-24 yards, beat his rivals just as nicely as the previous time. Ho has prospects. in the Hawcra Cup. Cassidy looked like whining the Stewards’ Handicap at the distance, but C. S. Donald brought Celebrity along with a well judged clforfc to win. The colt Sir Frank was a good third, and Real Pal, who tired, finished fourth. Polly Pail and Native Leaf left the field in tho Ballance Handicap and were well out in front at the mile, where Polly Pan broke, and Native Leaf ' took charge. Smith soon got Polly Pan in front again and trotting splendidly she won from Arapai, who went a fine race, and Lucky Rose. ' The mile provided a splendid contest, tho favourite Parochial breaking at tho start and losing a lot of ground. Allworthy and Silk Cord had the race to themselves to tho home turn where Parochial appeared on the scone, and in a great finish tho judge could not separate the favourite and Silk Cord. Allworthy was third and Tollgate next. Tho last race put spectators on their toes, as at the turn Rare lley, Blondie, Roekella, Rayon d’Or, Treasure Bond, Our McKinney, and Guymond were in a bunch. With whips cracking they raced in packed formation to the judge. Roekella just< shaded Blondie (who is improving) with Treasure Bond a . head away, and the others a neck back in line. AUCKLAND SCRATCHINGS. AUCKLAND, April 6. The following scratchings have been made for tho Auckland Racing Club’s meeting. All engagements: Mainland (2 - p.m.). Eden Handicap: Cappy [2 p.m.)
