THE EAST COAST.
HARBOUR FACILITIES. Per Press Association. WAIROA, March 30. Oil Saturday the most important meeting yet held in connection with harbour matters took place at Waikokopu, when tlie representatives of the Wairoa and Gisborne Harbour Boards met to consider a proposal to amalgamate the two boards lor the purpose of developing Waikokopu as the main port for tlie whole of the East Coast. Strong arguments were placed before tlie visitors by the local representatives, who submitted a report from Mr Holderuess, engineer to the Auckland Harbour Board, that for the expenditure of £60,000 could be established a port to accommodate a Home vessel, thus cutting out lighterage and considerable additional handling charges. It was stated that for a further reasonable amount of accommodation could be provided for all Home boats at present using the East Coast. Atter hearing the local side of tlie case the meeting adjourned to enable the Gisborne delegates to place the matters discussed before their board, and a further meeting will be held to consider the Gisborne Board’s decision.
