PERSONAL.

The King has assumed the position of C'olonel-in-Chief of the Royal Marines, an appointment previously held by King George, a British Official Wireless message states. Mr Ormond Wilson, M.P. for Rangitikei, has been appointed a member of the Tongariro National Park Board. Mr A. H. Palairet, who has been manager of the Rangiora branch of the Union Bank of Australia, Ltd., for the last nine years, has announced his intention to retire on superannuation after 41 years’ service with the bank. Mr Palairet served for periods at Feilding, Dannevirke, and Palmerston North before going to the South Island. Mr R. C. Bishop, of Ohau, who is leaving the district, was tendered a farewell recently and -was presented with a travelling rug. Several speakers praised Mr Bishop’s work for a number of organisations with which he had been connected, among them being the Kulcu . Dairy Company, the Farmers’ Union, the Ohau School Committee, the Tennis and Entertainment Club and the Rifle Club.

Formerly vicar of St. Andrew’s Church, Epsom, Rev. Edgar Lionel Harvie, vicar of St. Bartholomew’s Church, Adelaide, has died in Adelaide. Serving from 1913 in Stratford, Hamilton and Inglewood, Mr Harvie was vicar of St. Andrew’s from 1919 to 1927. From 1927 to 1929 he was vicar of St. Andrew’s, Cambridge, and was rural dean of the Hamilton diocese during 1928 and 1929.

A position on the literary staff of the Christchurch Press has been accepted by Mr A. W. Packard, who disposed of his interest in the Eltham Argus recently. Mr Packard takes up his duties next month. During his six years’ residence in Eltham Mr Packard took a keen interest in town affairs. H*> was an active member and adjutant of the Legion of Frontiersmen, a member of the Egmont Licensing Committee and several other bodies. A former resident of Palmerston North, Mr Packard was at one time on the staff of the “Standard.”
