HIGHWAY ACCIDENT.
WOMAN. SERIOUSLY INJURED. ■Serious head injuries were sustained by Mrs J. Bennett, of Kauwliata, when bn' accident Occurred on Rangitikei Line, yesterday afternoon. Mrs Bennett was a passenger in a car being driven towards Palmerston North by Mrs E. E. Firth, of Cameron’s Line, when another car, driven by Mr -W. Dustin and with a trailer attached, approached. 'As ‘ the two vehicles were about to pass, the right-hand wheel of the trailer collapsed, causing ths draw holt to .snap. The - trailer shot across the road and struck the rear •mudguard of Mrs Firth’s car, and Mrs Bennett, who was sitting on that side of the'rear seat, received the force of the impact. She was rendered unconscious and had to be conveyed immediately to a private hospital for an operation.
Mrs' Benentt underwent a second operation to-day and her condition early this afternoon was still serious.
