CRICKET

GAMES FOR TO-MORROW. The last matches in the Manawatu Cricket Association’s competitions are to be concluded to-morrow, and the weather over the last few days indicates that the wickets will be in a different condition from last Saturday’s. In the senior grade Palmerston and Y.M.C.A. continue their fight for the championship, at the Sportsground. Palmerston, who batted throughout the first afternoon’s play, have 7 wickets down for 206 runs, and the Y.M.C.A. innings will be watched with the keenest interest. United and Old Boys are also playing on the Sportsground oval. United completed their first innings for 246 runs and Old Boys go in to hat with the opening of play to-morrow. At the High School ground City Council face the home team, the former combination having knocked up 298 for their first innings. City Council will open to-morrow. In the junior A section High School reached 200 runs against Old Boys, the latter having 169 runs in hand for 6 wickets when play ceased for the day. Kia Toa had first use of the wicket against Y.M.C.A. to make 138. Y.M.C.A. have 128 runs on with 5 wickets down. In this match, too, the result may affect championship honours, as Y.M.C.A. lead Kia Toa by only two points. Massey College, who were engaged with City Council, have defaulted for the second day’s play. Palmerston defaulted to Combined Services before the match opened. The junior B fixtures are:—Kiwi (m) v. Old Boys (North Street); Combined Services (m) v. United (Sportsground No. 5); H. L. Young’s (m) v. Y.M.C.A. (Sportsground No. 6). Combined Services.—Junior A: K. Hickson (captaint), H. Roberts, L.
