PROPOSED NEW SHOWGROUNDS SITE.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —The writer was interested in the report of the meeting of the A. and P. Association published in your issue of the 18tli inst. I consider that Mr Eliott is to be admired for his proposal as outlined to acquire a property at Awapuni and for the Association to cut off a portion of the present property and dispose of same for residential purposes; noting that by so doing the Association would reduce its present load of £17,000 overdraft to approximately £2OOO, thus saving an interest charge of approximately £6OO per annum. The amazing thing in connection with the proposal is that certain members opposed same, one- member in particular giving as his reason for so doing “on the grounds of sentiment.” I have always understood, that there was no sentiment in business, especially wlien in this case there would be a saving of nearly £6OO per annum in interest and practically the wiping out of an overdraft of £17,000. I would venture the opinion, Mr Editor, that not only in the A. and P. Association, but also in most public organisations, more members of Air Eliott’s calibre are required, who would have as their object the advancement of the Association, rather than members who through sentiment would retard progress.—l am, etc., PROGRESS.
