ASHHURST
(From Our Own Correspondent.) ASHHURST, March 16. There was *' a large congregation at both, services held in the Methodist Church on Sunday when the church was comfortably filled. Visitors were present from Palmerston North, Foilding, Pahiatua, Pohangina and Utuwai, this occasion being the commencement of the golden jubilee celebrations. The preacher was Rev. C. A. Fusion, whoso addresses were most interesting, his morning subject being “A Retrospect” (text, “Hitherto hath the Lord helped us,” Samuel 7, verse 12) and in the evening “The best is yet to be” (text, “Glorious ’tilings of Thee arc spoken,” Psalm 87, verse 3). Special anthems .were rendered by the choir, those being “To Dcum Laudannts” and “King of Kings.” The bass solo was taken by Mr Turinieliife and the soprano by Mrs Brewer. Two quartettes were also rendered, “The Old Rugged Cross,” sung by Mrs Peek (soprano), Mrs Thomson (contralto), Mr* Tunnieliffc (bass) and Mr Finlay (tenor), whilst “Silent Night” was sung by Mrs Evans (soprano), Mrs Jackson (contralto), Mr TunnicliiTe (bass) and Mr Finlay (tenor). The choirmaster was Mr Dunham and tire organist Mr Sumner.
