The induction of Rev. Mr Ives as vicar of the Ekctahuna parochial district will take place on Thursday evening. Archdeacon Bullock-Douglas, of Wellington, will conduct the service, while several visiting clergymen will be in attendance. Mrs F. (Jlnislie, of Nelson, is the guest of Mrs Wilson, Stanley Street. Mr G. J orison returned on Saturday from Hastings, where he represented the local hire Brigade at the brigades’ conference. The ’ friends of Miss Nancy McAnulty will regret to hear that she is at present an inmate of the Pahiatua Hospital, where she will undergo an operation for appendicitis. A frost was •registered on Sunday night. Much damage was done in unsheltered gardens, tomatoes, beans, pumpkins, and tender plants suffering as a result. At a meeting of creditors _in tho bankrupt estate of C. Pocoek, it was shown that debtor was involved to the extent of £72 0s 6d with assets nil. In a statement bankrupt said his position was due to sickness in his family and misfortune in not obtaining regular employment. This is the first bankruptcy in this district for a considerable time. A meeting of the Paliialua-Bush branch of the New Zealand Educational Institute was held at the Ekctahuna School, members being present from Pahiatua, Mangatainoka, Marima, Makomako, Konini, Tiraumea and Eketaluuia. The secretary (Mr W. J. Henderson) read the report of tho district committee, aftei having at tended the meeting of branch representatives held in Wellington recently. A vote of thanks was accorded the delegates on the result achieved and for the preparation of the report. A welcome was tendered Messrs Kennedy and Scott, new members who have recently taken up positions at I lie local school. A discussion took place on remits brought forward for consideration at the next meeting of the Now Zealand Educational Institute representatives to bo held at Wellington in May. A vote of thanks to the chair and to the ladles for providing morning tea concluded the meet ing. By a margin of 42 runs on the first inn ings", the Mauricevillo Club’s team defeated the local club’s eleven in a cricket match held at tho week-end. For tho winners, the highest scores were made by N. Hood (75) arid R. Bishop (21), Ekotaluina’s chief scorers being Parsons (51), Duffy (20) and M. Frcderickscn (19). Bowling for Mauricevillo . Webby took six wickets for 27 runs, while Parsons for Eketaluuia secured four wickets for 59 and McQuillan two for 35 runs. In (ho fourth series of the Alfredton Rifle Club’s handicap cup shoots, held under trying conditions, the top scorers wore 0. Bickuoll (9) 98. FI. Duckett (20) 98, A. Leach (6) 96, S. McKay (stcr) 96, A. McDonald (6) 95, A. Weston (4) 95. L. Duckett (8) 95. F. Percy (13) 95. The- trophy for the day’s shooting was won by FI. Duckett.
