RUGBY SCRUM

CANTERBURY DECISION. Per Press Association. . CHRISTCHURCH, March 18. Opposition to any suggestion for altering the rules at present governing liugbv football was shown at the annual meeting of delegates of tlio Canterbury Union to-night, when proposals for reversion to the 2-3-2 scrum find a revival of the amended kick-into-toucli rule were before the meeting. A siiggestion that the .union should make it mandatory on clubs to adopt the 2-3-2 formation found little support, and a. proposal that dispensation be sought from the New Zealand Union to introduce these proposed changes was also defeated. . The proposals were separated for the purpose of voting. The 2-3-2 scrum proposal was defeated by 33 votes to 31, and it was decided to apply for dispensation for the kick-into-touch rule. x INVERCARGILL’S VIEW. Per Press Association. INVERCARGILL, March 18. That players themselves desired the return of the 2-3-2 scrum formation, and that a move be made to have it adopted throughout New Zealand, was the unanimous opinion of the Star Rugby Football Club at its annual meeting to-night. It was decided to recommend the Southland Rugby Union to press for its return and endeavour to get other unions in New Zealand to do the same. “A BAD BLUNDER.” EX-ALL BLACK’S VIEW. Per Press Association. »WANGANUI, March 18. “I think New Zealand made a bad blunder in adopting the new scrum formation,” said Mr E. R. G. Steere, the ex-All Black, speaking as a club delegate to the annual meeting of the Wanganui Metropolitan Rugby Union last night. “Everything possible should be done to .. revert to the 2-3-2 scrum, and. if necessary, the wing forward.” The meeting carried a recommendation on those lines to the Wanganui Rugby Council.
