There was a good attendance at the euchre and dance in aid of the Tennis Club funds held on Friday last. The prizewinners in the ladies’ section were Miss L. Davcy and Mrs L. Hastings (consolation), while Messrs IF. Tcasdaie and J. Atkinson tied for first place in the moil’s section, the latter winning in tho cut off. Mr J. O’Neil won the consolation. Music for the dancing was played by iMesdamcs A. Crowe and L. Hastings, Miss -VI. Anderson, and Mr L. Graven. A competition was won by Mr S. Anderson. Thanks are due to Mrs W. Anderson for the donation of a prize. The duties of M.C. were carried out by Mr Wm. Anderson. The Education Board’s workmen havebeen carrying out repairs to the school buildings, necessitated by the recent storm. Ground improvements have been put in hand by tho School Committee, and when completed should add greatly to tho appearance of the school grounds. Tho Kairanga Tennis Club.,,visited the local courts on Saturday lasl,’. when the visitors suffered their first defeat of the season, the home side winning by 10 sets to 6. Anderson beat Miss Lancaster, 6 —4; Miss E. Woods beat Mrs Mitchell, 6 —5. Men’s singles: J. Woods lost to I. Davcy, I—6; J. Woodley lost to L. Clark, 4—6; W. Anderson beat G. Davcy, 6 —5; W. R. Hopcroft lost to R. Mitchell, I—6. Ladies’ doubles: Misses E. and M. Anderson beat Miss Ranson and Mrs Mitchell, 6—5; Miss I. Anderson and Woods beat Miss Lancaster and Mrs Mitchell, 6—4. A visit was paid by the Whakarongo Cricket Club to the local team during the week-end, when tho visitors provjd decisive winners by 57 runs. Whakarongo was represented "by C. Raisin, L. Johnson, I. Raisin, Meac-hen, A. Raisin, Lovo, R. Puklowski, S. Alberts, C. Puklowski, White, and Leo. The Aokautcre team was J. Woods, J. O’Neill, W. Gosling, L. Brill, Wm. Anderson, H. Teasdalo, R. Crawford, S. Anderson, A. Lancaster, and E. Anderson. Bowling for Aokautcre, Wm. Anderson took 8 wickets for 6 runs in the fimt innings. The opening night of tho Aokautcre Miniature Rifle Club was hold on Monday, when there were several new members present and tho attendance and shooting augur well for tho coming season. Tho shooting was of a high standard and there was keen competition for the nightly trophy—finally won by A. ‘Hopcroft with a double possible. The individual scores were as follow:—A.
