EXTRACTS FROM “STANDARD ” MARCH 17. 1906. The Manawatu Racing Club bad decided against a proposal to mine charges for admission to the lawn from 7s 6d and 2s 6d to 10s and ss. , The profits on the tour to England of the New Zealand Rugby team bad amounted to £9500. Comment had been made on the cost lo the Colour of the Scenery Commission. It was estimated that the total sum amounted to £2500. It was urged that a swimming bath and gymnasium should he constructed at tlic Palmerston North High School, the estimated cost being £I2OO. The acquisition of the Manawatu Railway by the Government bad been discussed bv U R . Premier (Hon. R. J. Scddon) who had said that he did not think it would bo acquired until the close of the company’s 21-vear-tcrm. The Agent-General in London for New Zealand had accepted 200 navvies as emigrants for the Colony. He had also said that he would accept 1000 domestic servants, regardless of the personal capital qualification.
