HIGHER VALUES RULE. AT ADDINGTON YARDS. Per Press Association. . CHRISTCHURCH, Feb. 12. Values in most sections at Addington today were higher. Store lambs came forward 1 in smaller numbers and better quality. r lho J improvement in feed prospects following the rain helped the market, and values recovered to the full the drop of Is last week. Best owes sold to 19s, and best mixed sox to 17e. Store sheep.—The entry was heavy, but generally unattractive. Ewes of all descriptions were in keen demand and sold at higher prices. Two-tooth Gorl'iodalc and Romney owes made to 325, sound-mouth to 23s aged to 17s. Fat lambs. —A smaller entry. Competition was very keen among exporters and butchers and prices were higher, top price being 32s lOd. Extra prime made Jo 32s lOd, prime 26s to 29s 6d, medium-weight 23s to 25s 6d, others 18s to 22s 6d. Fat sheep.—The entry was smaller and the quality medium. There was a kewi demand and prices were Is 6d higher. There war, a shorter entry of veal and values were fully maintained. A moderate entry of store cattle resulted in values being 10s a head better. JOI-INSONVILLE SALE. At Johnsonville yesterday • Wright, Stephenson and Co.. Ltd., and Abraham and Williams, Ltd., offered a full yarding of .cattle and an average yarding of sheep. The cattle yarding comprised mainly good quality bullocks and cows with a few pens of inferior sorts. A good sale resulted at prices for prime beef on a par with last week’s rates, while plain cattle wore not in demand. In the sheep section wethers were dull of sale, while there was a good demand for owes at last, week’s rates. Lambs met with a ready sale and showed no alteration in price. Cattle: Prime extra heavy bullocks, £ll 7s, £ll ss, £ll, £lO 17s; prime heavy bullocks £lO 12s, £lO 10s, £lO 6s, £10; heavy bullocks, £9 12s, £9 10s, £3 7s, £9 4s; extra prime heavy cow's and heifers, £7 18s, £7 .15s, £7 Bs, £7 3s; prime heavy cows and heifers, £6 10s, £6 6s, £6; cow's and heifers, £4 17s, £4 4s 6d, £4, £3 10s, £3 ssvoalors, 245, 21s, 20s, 15s. LEVIN SALE. There was a medium yarding of pigs and a largo yarding of sheep and cattle at the Levin stock sale on Tuesday. Pork showed a slight increase on the previous week, other classes of stock remamiug firm. Several entries of breeding ewes were in keen deniond. Dalgety and Coy., Ltd., report a fair entry of stock at, the Ashhurst sale, there was a good attendance and competition was sound lor all classes ot stock submitted. We quote: Shorn b.f. lambs, 14s 3d, 15s Id, 16s 7d to 17s 2d; small lambs, 12s, 1310(1; full mouth cSves, 14s 10(1, m.a. ewes, 28s; springing heifers, £4 10s, £5, £5 7s 6d, £5 10s; fat Jersey cows, £2 10s. £3 to £4; store cows, £1 to £1 7s; potter bulls, £3 5s to £3 15s; store pigs, 15s 6d tc 19s. Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report a full yarding of all classes of sheep at Asliluirst with a total clearance, lambs of all grades selling freely. A good yarding Of cattle was also penned and for these the values were firm on. other recent sales. WOODVILLE SALE. Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report a good yarding of all classes of sheep at Tuesday’s Woodville sale, some tip-tor lines of 4 and 5-yr owes being submitted. At the beginning of the sale competition was inclined to drag, but as the sale ad vanc-ed it improved, and we report quite a satisfactory clearance. The competition for lambs of all grades was keen and \vt report a total clearance in this section at auction. Quotations: —4 and 5-yr ewes, good, 24s 6d, 25s 9d to 27s 6d; 5-yr ewes, 225, 235, 23s 6d to 24s 6d; 4 and 6-th ewes, 27s 6d, 28s, 29s to 30s 6d; 2-th ewes, 265. 28s 6d, 29s 6d, 30s 6d to 32s 6d; shorn b.f. lambs, good, 16s, 16s 9d, 17s, 17s 6d, woolly b.f. lambs, 15s, 15s 6d, 16s, 17s, 17s 6d, 19s to 20s 3d; small lambs, Bs, 9s, 10s, 10s 6d, 11s, 12s to 14s. HUNTERVILLE SALE. Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report on the Hunterville sale as under : —A large yarding of sheep of all classes was submitted to a wide representation of buyers, and we report an excellent clearance at auction for practically everything submitted. A light entry of cattle came to hand; anything offered in this section sold readily. Quotations; —An excellent line of 300 2-th ewes submitted by us on account of Mr Iv. G. Dalzinli, of Mangaonoho. realised the good figure of 35s 6d and 355; other lines of 2-tli ewes, 335, 33s 6d to 345; 4-yr ewes on account of the R. Lourio Estate, 255; 5-yr ewes, 20s, 20s 9d, 21s, 235, to 23s 6d! aged fattening ewes, 9s, 11s 6d to 13s; shorn b.f. lambs, 14s, 15s, 15s 6d, 16s to 17s 6d; woolly b.f. lambs, 16s, 16s’ 3d, 16s 6d, to 18s 3d. BEEF FIRM AT WESTFIELD. Per Press . Association. AUCKLAND, Fob. 12. Values for ox beef were firm at the Westfield stock sale to-day, while cow and heifer beef realised slightly bettor prices. Extra choice ox beef made 32s per 1001 b; choice and prime ox, 28s to 30s; second and plain ox, 25s to 275; prime young cow and heifer, 27s to 295: ordinary cow. 16s to 235. Runner calves made £2 to £6 Is, and vealers £1 12s to £3 18s. There was a good demand for pigs and baconcrs realised improved prices. Baconcrs made 52s to 61s; porkers, 35s Ho 50s An average yarding of sheep sold readily at late rates. Wethers, prime, made 23s to 28s; unfinished, 19s to 22s 6d; ewes, prime, 15s to 275; unfinished, from 10s. Lambs, prime, 20s to 275; unfinished, 7s 6d to 17s 9d. AT BURNSIDE Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, Feb. 12. There was an entry of 270 fat cattle at. the Burnside sale to-day, the offering including only a few consignments of prime heavy bullocks. The bulk of the yarding comprised medium cattle with the usual percentage of cows and heifers. Values for all prime sorts showed an appreciation of 10s a head with the best demand over the final stages, the sale closing with a further firming tendency. In the store cattle section 145 head were submitted to auction. The penning comprised vealers and cull cows, there being no quotable line of steers. Values generally ..were on a par with those obtained at the 'previous sale. Dairy cows were forward in smaller numbers, only 16 being penned. There was a spirited demand, up to £9 15s being obtained, this figure being the highest realised for some considerable time. The entry of fat sheep numbered 1290. The quality generally was only fair, there being a preponderance of light sheep. Prime, heavy wethers were distinctly in the minority, and this class sold at Is 6d a head firmer. Heavy ewes v.-orc in demand throughout the sale, and showed an appreciation of 2s a head, while over the final races even this rise was exceeded. The fat lamb entry numbered 1230, including several consignments of good quality. Butchers operated for all heavier grades, and export buyers paid full schedule rates. The 206 fat pigs penned wore m excess of requirements, and lower prices had to be accepted. Baconcrs showed only slight variation, but porkers were easier to the extent of 5s a head. There was no demand for an offering of 100 store pigs, and buyers only operated at 1 greatly reduced prices. I
