MR C. S. JEFFS.

LEAVING FOR .WANGANUI. It will be witli deep regret that the business community and general public of Feilding will learn that Air C. S. Jeffs, manager of Alessrs John Cobbe and Coy., Ltd., has accepted the appointment of manager of the AA'anganui branch of his firm and leaves Feilding ill a few days to take up his residence in the River City. The departure of Air Jeffs will he a distinct loss to the business interests of Feilding, and although it was generally recognised that his keen business acumen and initiative were bound to carry him forward in his profession, there will be many who will regret his departure from Feilding. About 16 years ago Air Jeffs arrived in Feilding, with his family, to take over the management of Alessrs Cobbe and Coy., and it is safe to say that under his capable control the firm has never looked back. In all matters pertaining to the interests and welfare of his firm his energy was indefatigable, yet in the midst of the many and various business ramifications of a largo department store he found time to devote himself to many projects of a social and civic nature. For a number of years lie served on the Feilding Chamber of Commerce executive, where his opinion on all subjects having to do with the progress of the town was always sought and was readily available. He served a term as president of the chamber, and on the retailers’ committee of the chamber also did much valuable work. At the last municipal elections lie was prevailed upon to contest a seat on the Borough Council, and was paid the compliment by the burgesses of being returned very high on the voting list in his initial essay for civic honours. In the field of athletics Mr Jeffs has always taken an active part in all local enterprises, and in swimming pursuits his services were always available for the Feilding Swimming Club. Hockey also claimed his attention, and for several years lie was one of the leading figures behind the control of the Feilding Hockey Association and its large tournament oil June 3. AA’itli her energetic and popular husband Airs Jeffs lias likewise always been ready to devote herself to various social activities, and was one of the early members of the Feilding Orchestral Society, in which her expert performances with the violin .made her a valued member. AA’itli their father taking such ail interest in athletics it is perhaps natural that the members of Mr Jeff’s family would follow suit, and the Feilding High School sports have seen more than one member of the family distinguishing themselves on the field of sport, both in running and j in games.

Mr Jeffs and his. family will leave Feilding with the sincere good wishes of their-many .friends for tlieir futura prosperity and happiness, together with their congratulations at his Wellmerited advancement. Although he will still retain his private business interests in Feilding and will be a visitor to the town at intervals, the departure •of Air Jeffs to AA’angamii has necessitated the appointment of another manager of Messrs Cobbe’s. To this position, Air H. T. Simmons, head of the men’s department of the firm, has been appointed, a move which will occasion the congratulations of his many friends. Air It. Alurphy lias succeeded Air Simmons as head of the men’s department.
