EXTRACTS FROM "STANDARD,” FEBRUARY 13, 1906.

A severe flood had been experienced in the lower Manawatu. All the country about Rangiotu was under water. A great mass of debris had become piled against, the Mangaono bridge, on Rangitikei Line. Comment was made that a local distributing company had had four cars on view at the Feilding Show. Two were of 13 h.p., one of 8 h.p., and one of 6 h.p. Fruit was reported to be so dear in Nelson- township that money could be saved by buying Nelson district fruit in Wellington and then shipping it back across the Straits again. New Zealand butter was selling at Home at 104 n per cwt and Danish at 114 s. A fresh food and cooling stores company, it. was announced, was to commence operations locally. The Nov/ Zealand Rugby team bad played an exhibition game at San Francisco, on its way back from Britain, winning by 43 points to 6.
