ALLEGED REMARKS
BY MAJOR C. H. DOUGLAS. INQUIRY TO BE MADE. LOAN COUNCIL SCHEME. (United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received February 12, 9.10 a.m. EDMONTON, Feb. 11. On the demands of the Liberal leader (Mr Howson) and the Conservative leader (Mr Duggan) a special committee of the Legislature will probe alleged remarks in London of Major C. H. Douglas which are declared to he offensive to both the Canadian and Alberta Governments regarding the proposed Dominion Loan Council. It is alleged that Major Douglas stated: “If the provinces allow the remaining autonomies in regard to the most important factor of their constitution, finance, to be filched away from them, I have little doubt that democracy is doomed.” CANADIAN POLITICS. NEW MEASURES ADVOCATED. OTTAWA. Feb. 10. Compulsory voting, with limitation of election expenses, was advocated by the Leader of the Opposition (Mr R. B. Bennett), in an Address-in-Reply speech. He attacked the trade treaty with the United States as improvident. Mr Angus Maclnnis, of the Commonwealth Federation, gave notice of a resolution granting the franchise to all Orientals or to exclude them. If an Oriental was good enough to be a resident, he said, it wa.s good enough for him to vote. If lie was not good enough he should be elsewhere. REGIME IN ALBERTA.
SOCIAL CREDIT REGULATIONS. EDMONTON (Alberta), Feb. 10. The Provincial Secretary (Mr Manning) states that a Bill will be introduced this session to enable Cabinet to establish Social Credit regulations by proclamation, without reference to the Legislature. He declines to reveal tlie terms of the measure.
