CALLIOPE DOCK.

EXTENSION WORK. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Feb. 11. The tender of Mr W. Williamson, contractor, of Christchurch, of £2489. for the work of extending Calliope Dock, was accepted by the Auckland Harbour Board to-day. The work, it is stated, will be begun almost immediately. \ The extension to the dock is being made to accommodate the two large new cruisers, Lcander and Achilles, which are shortly to replace the Dunedin and Diomede on the New Zealand naval station. The plans provide for the lengthening of the dock floor an additional 13 feet, involving the excavation of about 1800 cubic yards of sandstone and concrete work, which is to be completed within four months of the date of its commencement. The work is part of a major scheme for* improving the naval defences of New Zealand.
