CAIRNS BAND TO VISIT CITY
APPEARANCE AT REGENT TO-NIGHT. A great deal of interest is being manifest in Palmerston North in the visit of the Cairns (31st Battalion) Band, Queensland. Tho band is oil its way to the New Plymouth contest in search of further laurels despite the fact that its record of achievements is already a long one, and its advancement in its own particular musical, sphere a phenomenal one. The visitors were given a civic welcome at the rotunda in the Square immediately after arrival, and 10-inght they wiU appear at the Regent Theatre. The Colins Band is one of the twelve A grade combinations in the whole of Australia and has readied a very high standard of musical excellence, consequently Ealmorston North has to consider itself honoured at being included in its itinerary. (Us appearance at the New Zealand contest means that Australian and New Zealand honours are being sought. The bandmaster is Mr James Qompton, who for years was Australia’s .champion cornetist. Ail outstanding treat is consequently promised citizens at the Regent to-night and Thursday night.
