RECORD FLIGHT
ROSE’S FINE PERFORMANCE. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received February 10, 1.45 p.m. CAPETOWN. Feb. 9. . The official timing of Flight-Lieut. T. Rose’s record flight from England is that he arrived at 6.3 p.m. The flight occupied 3 days, 17 hours, 38 minutes. In addition to breaking Mrs Amy Mollison’s record, Rose beat by eight minutes the French record from Le Bourget to Capetown by Goulette and Saleh. Rose damaged a wheelgnard when he was forced to land in a field 70 miles south of Salisbury, where lie spent the night in a farmhouse. His longest previous stop was five hours at Cairo. 'Hie aerodrome staff at Salisbury repaired the damage while the machine was refuelled. Rose says the journey was uneventful, but in the latter stages it was humpy, resulting in him injuring an elbow against the petrol gauge. He was lucky to reacli Cairo, where he landed with only a few drops of petrol.
