BOXING
BROTHERS SUCCESSFUL. Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, Feb. 10. "With a win on a knock-out for the WtUington boy shortly after the commencement of the second round, what promised to be an interesting contest for the vacant professional featherweight boxing title between Clarrie Rayner (Blenheim), 8.13}, and Billy Aitken (Wellington), 8.13}, came to a disappointing ending. The first round was Rayner’s, but hardly, had the second commenced than Rayner was seen to double up and drop to the ground, claiming a foul. The referee applied the full count and Rayner was tarried from the ring for medical examination. A doctor could find no trace of a low hit, and Aitken was awarded thfe decision. The referee (Mr Don Paterson) said afterward that a left rip to the solar plexus put Rayner down. A preliminary contest lietwecn Charlie Buckley (Dunedin), 8.135, and Aitken’s younger brother, Ralph, B.loj, resulted in a win for the latter in the seventh round on a technical knock-out. The youngster began slowly, hut after the second round had all the better of the bout, and Buckley was unable to stay with him.
