GAMING LAWS.

DISCOURSE IN COURT. Per Press Association. NEW PLYMOUTH, Feb. 10. A police raid on a hairdresser’s shop and a subsequent search on February 1 resulted in the proprietor, Francis Sampson Rolvcrts, being fined £25 and costs 10s in the Magistrate’s Court this morning. Ronald Cole, who was found on the premises, was fined £5, with costs 10s. A feature of the case was the long address by defending counsel (Mr C. H. Croker), who pointed out that the laws relating to bookmaking had not had public sanction and were likely to be replaced in the future, an argument which the Magistrate (Mr W. 11. Woodward) suggested was for the Legislative Council rather than the Court.
