MISCELLANEOUS CASES. Mr J. L. Stout, S.M., presided over yesterday’s sitting of the Magistrate's Court, wfien miscellaneous cases were heard. • Eor failing to give way to traffic on his right, 1 .S. Wilson was fined 40s, with costs 10s, while J. M. Cameron was fined £i with costs 19s on a similar charge. Frederick Wilson pleaded guilty to charges of having been round drunk in a public place and of having .obtained liquor during the currency of a prohibition order. Senior-Sergeant Moriarty stated that the order iiad been taken out against accused at bedding on Saturday morning and he had apparently come straight through to Palmerston North and had proceeded to get drunk. A fine of £l, in default seven days’ imprisonment, was imposed on each charge. Matanga Utiku Marumaru, a native woman, was charged that, on February 8, at Wanganui, with intent to do grievous bodily harm to Tari Bailey, she had inflicted injuries with a sharp instrument. Oil the application of Detective Barling accused was remanded.to appear at Wanganui on the 13th inst.

John Michael George Johnson was charged that, on December 8, at Palmerston North, he had been deemed to be an incorrigible rogue in that he had escaped from the the Palmerston North gaol before the expiration ol the term of imprisonment for which he was committed. Detective Barling explained that accused had only ai rived from Auckland that morning, and as there were enquiries to he made, lie applied for a remand till Thursday. The remand was granted. Being a person excluded under the Act Basil Tui Bishop, alias Thompson, was fined £5, with Court costs 10s, .in default one month’s imprisonment, for trespassing on the Aslihurst racecourse during the progress of a. race meeting. Cycling at night without having lights affixed to their machines cost 11. H. Richardson and A. Duncan 10s each, the Court costs being 3s and 12s respectively. Four taxi-drivers who had been charged with having been found on licensed premises after hours were given' the benefit of the doubt. A slip was produced from the taxi office file showing the times of the calls and the Magistrate remarked that it would be unusual for four drivers to vacate their stand voluntarily at the same time without some reason for so doing.
