WHEAT INDUSTRY.

NEAV SCHEME APPROVED. Per Press Association. OAMARU, Feb. 10. Interviewed this morning, Mr R. K. Ireland, chairman • of Distributors, Ltd., considered that the idea of the AATieat Committee taking over control of the industry was definitely a good one as all mills, including Auckland, would be brought into the scheme. So far as Distributors, Ltd., was concerned it definitely went out; its agreement with the millers would expire at the end of February and negotiations had been proceeding for an extension of the agreemgjit for twelve months. These would cease. Mr.lreland considered that the Government had endeavoured to be fair tcy® lo millers at the same time as looking after other interests, and though tiie millers’ profits were limited to a narrow margin, he was quite sure the new scheme would work. The sliding scale of duties was alright as far as it went, but the full benefit was not derived ’from it owing to the conflict of interests in the Dominion.

PRICE OE BREAD. Per Press Association. AVELLINGTON, Feb. 10. The view that the prices of bread fixed by tho Government would be the minimum and not the maximum was expressed to-day by Mr Kellow, the president of the A\ r ellington Master Bakers’ Union. If prices were tho maximum, he said, it' would, bo impossible for the better class bakers to operate.
