POHANGINA VALLEY.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) POIiANGINA, Feb. 10. A meeting of the Apiti-Pohangina Rab bit Board was hold at Pohangina, t.hoso present being Trustees J. D. Galvin (chairman), J. D. Kilgour, 11. C.~Mclntyre, E. A. Palmer, and J. C. Searlo. Leave of absence was granted Trustee Osborn. The stock inspector advised that the department will pay for the destruction of rabbits on Crown sections. The treasurer’s report .was read and approved. The inspectors’ reports for November and December were read and approved. 'Jho three inspectors wore present at the meeting and each gave reports on the work done in the past. Mr Stevens reported that his area was in fairly good order !so far as rabbits were concerned, with the exception of throe farmers’ propofties. All the ratepayers had been notified to com plctc pollard poisoning by the end of Feb ruary. He was instructed to give. final notice to clear blackberry in cases where the work was being neglected. Mr Smith reported that his area was in fairly good order. Mr Malone advised that there wore still plenty of rabbits in many parts, especially on the Table Flat area, where in some places they were increasing, and lie considered that it was more than one man’s work to deal with his area. Accounts totalling £209 14s 4d wore passed for payment. A meeting of the Pohangina Domain Board was hold on Saturday evening, those present being Messrs G. 11. Passey (in the chair), N. 11. Moar, C. F. Wag staff and 11. Fitzherbert. Leave of absence was granted Mr T. Sinclair. It was decided to engage a man to repair the darnago done in the Domain by the recent storm, and to erect three chains of new fence along tho road frontage. It was also decided to purchase a inoto* mower to keep tho cricket pitch in ordor. The Pohangina Valley branch of the Amalgamated Farmers’ and Dairy Farmers’ Union held their monthly mooting at Pohangina on Saturday. Mr B. B. Bockett presided. A vote of sympathy to the president (Mr J. D. Balmcr) in his recent bereavement was carried and tho secretary was asked to convoy to Mr Balmcr the feelings of the members. The secretary was also instructed to wl'ito to Mr T. G. Turn hull, vice-president of the branch, expressing on behalf of tho members sincere wishes for a speedy recovery from his recent accident. Correspondence was received from the provincial sccrelary regarding farm labour requirements. The mutter had boon taken up with tho Unemployment Board, which had given an
assurance that every endeavour would be lilado to fulfil farm labour remlircment? upon application being made to the board’s certifying officer for the district, provided that the wages offered, and conditions of employment wore within reason. Tho secretary' stated that ho would bo pleased to deal with any enquiries from members. In reply to a'remit protesting against certain grades of pigs being _ excessively penalised, the executive committed advised that representations had been made to tho Pig Marketing Association and tho matter had been rectified. The question of reviving the shopping concession lists was discussed and the secretary advised that the executive had decided to hold tho matter over until an organiser was appointed to the district.
