BRILLIANT TENNIS.

COCHET AT AUCKLAND. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Feb. 9. A good deal of interest was taken in the appearance at Auckland on Saturday of Henri Cochet, the famous Frenchman, together with three Australian tennis professionals Cochet and Jim Willard gave a sparking exhibition in their singles. Cochet’s calmness made a strong appeal. He played all his shots in an effortless •style. His backhand was probably the best ever seen in Auckland and the spectators marvelled 'at his accuracy. Drives from either hand were continuously sent with great rapidity just a*few inches inside the lines in almost mechanical fashion. Play in the other matches was not of such a. high standard. Results were as follow:- Cochet beat J. Willard, 7-5, 9-11. 6-2, 6-4; A. Willard beat Baker, 6-1, 6-4; J. Willard and A. Willard beat Cochet and Baker, 8-6, 6-3, S-6.
