WILD CONFERENCE

OF STRIKING SEAMEN. EXTENSION OPPOSED. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) - MELBOURNE Jan. 22. The conference of federal unions, called by the Australian Council of Trades Unions, to discuss the seamen’s strike continued to-day, w.lien the - seamen submitted a proposal for an extension of the strike to key industries. This was rejected. The seamen then offered to place the dispute in the hands of the Australian Council of Trades Unions in conjunction with the Seamen’s Union. It was also suggested that the shipowners should be approached. Proceedings were very stormy and eventually became so involved that the conference asked-the seamen to reconstruct their proposals for a further conference to-morrow. The only support offered the seamen was from the president and secretary of the Miners’ Federation.
