STRIVINGS FOR PEACE. IN TRYING PERIOD. Received January 22, 11.30 a.m. GENEVA, Jan. 21. The Associated Press says that, opening the public Council meeting, Mr S. M. Bruce, reading from black-edged script, made eloquent eulogy of the King and expressed a profound sense of grief. As President, it was his duty on their behalf to express their sorrow at the death of King George and sympathy with the Queen and members of the Royal Family. The King’s life, he said, had been dedicated to the service of his people and their happiness and well-being. During 25 years of the most critical and most difficult period in the world’s history His Majesty had reigned oyer his Empire, and with each passing year the trust, admiration, and love of his people had been strengthened. His Majesty had never wearied in his efforts to establish world peace and a better understanding between the nations. The French, Italian, Russian and Spanish delegates also paid tribute to King George, and Mr R. A. Eden thanked the delegates for their sympathy. Addis Ababa advises that the news of the King’s death lias been received with general grief.
