France is to buy Marshal Foeh’a birthplace at Tarbes and make it a museum. As advertised on tho front page, a performance of the beautiful pastoral “May Queen” will be given in tho Opera House about two months hence in aid of tho Free Ambulance funds, a most worthy object. An invitation is given to all those who love choral musical to assist. The work consists of beautiful solos, duets, trios, and choruses, one of the main features being the orchestral accompanists of fifteen players. It is intended to follow this production with the presentation of Gaunod’s “Redemption.” The City Council employees’ annual picnic is again to be run to the beach at Plimmerton on Friday, the 24th inst., when it is hoped that as many of tho townspeople as can manage it will accompany the City Council to this outing. This is regarded as the general town picnic, as the invitation is open to all who' wish to accompany the council employees on that day. The sports programme is extensive, free hot water and milk are provided for the adults, and free drinks and ice cream for the kiddies. As a further attraction a free rafle will be run on the return journey.
