(From Our. Own Correspondent.! RONGOTEA, Jan. 21. A meeting of Iho Rongolea Town Beard was hold last evening. Present: Connni—,sioners 1,. 11. Yarrall (chairman), T. Fraser, E. J. Arnott, W. A. Croad. who staled that there had been some agitation in Rongotea to have the weekly ■ half-holiday changed lo Saturday, hut on making a canvass he had found more were in favour of retaining Thursday. It was resolved lo continue with the Thursday halfholiday during the coming year. Several tenders ,for painting Iho exterior of the Coronation Llail were received. Mi ssrs A. Clark, Ltd., of Palmerston North, were awarded the contract, subject to the approval of the Unemployment Board, who are being asked lo subsidise the work. The contract price was £35 10s. Correspondence from tlie Commissioner of Transport with regard to signboard,, on the local highway for regulation cf irallic slated (hat the matter was receiving attention. A letter was received from Mr 0. S. Parlane, drawing attention to an obstruction in Medway Street. It .has received attention. jlr A. Tronkncr was appointed registrar of dogs for the Town Board area. Accounts for £37 19s 7d wore passed for payment. Quite a gloom was cast over the community, when, shortly after 1 p.tn., the news was received of the passing of King George V. As is customary, the bell at the Anglican Church was rolled at intervals of one minute; seventy times to indicate the King's ago; and then twentyfive' times for the years of Ill's reign. Arrangements for picnic and other functions were immediately cancelled.
