WATT 81-CENTENARY.

CELEBRATION AT HOME. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, Jan. 20. The l>i-centenary of the birth of James Watt, the inventor of the steam engine, is being commemorated. A service was held yesterday in Westminster Abbey and was attended bv engineering organisations. In his native town of Greenock a memorial plaque was unveiled bv the Secretary of State for Scotland (&ir Godfrey* Collins). Wreaths were deposited on the memorial at Birmingham A bi.-centenary exhibition is being held at the Science Museum, South Kensington. . , The Institution of Mechanical Engineers has established a James Matt Medal to be awarded biennially for the most outstanding achievement in mechanical engineering during the previous two years. Eligibility will not be confined to British engineers.
