TRAMS COLLIDE.
MOTORMAN’S COLLAPSE. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Jan, 20.. Owing to u motonmui in the Hiltaitai tunnel yesterday morning, his tram collided with the rear of the preceding tram, but no one was injured and o.nly slight damage was done to the cars. The conductor could have stopped the runaway tram from the rear platform, hut he was unaware of the motorman’s sudden illness and, seeing the motorman’s hat fall on the road, lie had left the car to get it. By. the time ho had reached the cap tlie car was well into the tunnel and lie was unable to reach it in time to prevent a collision. There were no signs of panic among the passengers. The motorman said later that he thought his collapse was due to ptomaine poisoning. An investigation is to be held.
