MARINE STRIKE

CONFERENCE OF UNIONS. SYDNEY, Jan. 17. A special meeting of over 2000 seamen unanimously authorised Mr J. Keenan to represent the Seamen’s Union at the conference of maritime unions convened by the Australian Council of Trades Unions in Melbourne on Monday next. Mr Keenan is to be accompanied by the Sydney branch secretray, Mr C. Herbert, who told take meting that if Mr Keenan were not recognised by the conference he would refuse to participate in its discussions. Mr Jacob Johnson, who is already in Melbourne, has presented his credentials to the Australian Council of Trades Unions, which he claims will prove he is still genera] secretary. The A.C.T.U. lias invited the management committee of the Seamen’s Union to the conference, but has not recognised the claims of the centralstrike committee to be represented. Mr Herbert will represent the management committee.
