AIARTON, Dec. 17. • The usual learners’ classes were held at the Marten swimming baths last evening, all aspirants entering enthusiastically into the practices. After 11} years as headmaster of the Marton District High School, Air H. L. Wilson is leaving to take up a similar position at St. Clair School, Dunedin. A large assembly gathered at the school last evening to bid farewell to Mr Wilson, and on behalf of the school committee, parents, and scholars, Mr H. J. Fowler presented him with an eight-day clock. Air Fowler paid a tribute to the work Mr Wilson had done for the school, and these remarks were warmly endorsed by Air P. H. Hall and Air j. B. Johnstone. Atiss L. Wilkie presented Air Wilson with a pen and ink-stand on behalf of the old pupils of the school*. In reply, to these expressions of goodwill, Air Wilson paid a tribute to his staff and said how sorry he was to .have to leave them. * The athletic sports in connection with the Alarton District High School house competitions were held on Friday afternoon under perfect conditions. Some excellent performances were registered, the most notable being Cartledge’s throw of 219 feet in the cricket ball event, and Cobham’s jump of 4it. 7in. in the high jump, the former being a record. Cobham also broke the long jump record with 15ft. sin. Detailed results are as follow: —100yds.: Taylor 1, Cartledge 2, Wilkie 3. 220 yards: Wilkie 1, Cartledge 2, Aliles and Taylor 3. 440 yards: Cartledge 1, Aliles 2, Armstrong 3. AVilkie 14ft. 3in. 2, Lobb 14ft. 2in. 3. Hop, step and jump: Cartledge 31ft. sin. 1, Cobham 30ft. Bin. 2. Aliles 30ft. 7in. 3. Throwing cricket ball: Cartledge 219 ft. (record) 1, R. Armstrong 170}ft. 2, Aliles 150 ft. 3. House points: Green 18, Brown 17, Red B}, Black 4}. The swimming sports were held on Alonday morning, the results being: —25 yards: Banks 1, S. Cartledge 219 feet. _ Aliss Clodagh Kitcat, 8.A., who is on the staff of the Auckland Diocesan School for Girls, is spending the holidays with her mother, Mrs Kitcat, Queen Street, Alarton. Air and Airs] Arnold Theed, Queen Street, Alarton, are spending the Christmas holidays at a beach near Napier, where they will be the guests of their son.,
