CHELTENHAM WOMEN’S INSTITUTE.
CHRISTMAS GATHERING. A Christmas air was given the December meeting of the Cheltenham Women’s Institute, which was held at the home of Mrs W. Booth, Kimbolton Road, by the distribution of toys to the children by Father Christmas. Owing to the absence of the president (Mrs E. E. Short), the vice-president (Mrs Billman) took the chair. An imposing Christmas tree had, been erected in the gardens, and on the arrival of Father Christmas the children, of whom there were many present, gathered ronnd and each received a gift. It was arranged to have the January meeting in the form of a picnic, Mrs Corpe Kindly offering a nice spot in Beaconsfield. This gathering is to take place on January 29, all funds to go to the institute queen. The meeting agreed to enter for the flower shop window competition to be held at the Feilding A. and P. Association’s Show in February. Mrs Shepherd and Mrs Branch presented the institute with a Christmas gift, this being a beautiful table cover in the institute’s colours for the president’s table. Several of the competitions which had been held for the queen funds were drawn. Afternoon tea was served in the beautiful and shady grounds, after which everybody joined m singing Christmas carols, the music supplied by Mrs Farmer (violin) and Mr Hausemann (’cello) being appreciated by all. Thanks were accorded Mrs Booth for the loan of her grounds.
