AERO CLUB
ANNUAL MEETING. ELECTION OF~ OFFICERS. The annual meeting of the Manawatu Aero Club was held in the ltoyale Duteli Lounge recently, when there were present Messrs H. E. Edmunds (in the chair), Linklater, Hawker, Wallace, Rabone, Muirhead, Bennett, Tanner, Foley, Lecher, Sinillie, Chandler, Penny, Short, Barnett, Pearse, Chamberlain, Firth, and Mrs Stannard. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs A. E. Mansford, Honeyfield, Waters, McGaffin, • McLeod, Smillie and Dutliie. The election of officers resulted as follows: —Patron, Mr J. A, Nash; president, Mr H. E. Edmunds; vice-pre-sidents, Messrs R. L. C. Aitchison, W. G. Black, L. H. Collinson, H. B. Free, J. Hodgens, M.P., J. Linklater,, C. Louisson, A. E. Mansford, Sqiiad-ron-Leader M. C. McGregor, R. Tanner, senr., and Jas. Wallace; club captain, Mr G. AV. Dixon; lion, treasurer, Mr E. V. Spear; general committee, Messrs W. H. Brown, C. M. Duthie, A. H. Honeyfield, N. R. Lecher, R. L. McGaffin. E. W. Pearse, D. C. Smillie, J. B. Smillie, R. Tanner, junr., W. A. Waters; auditor, Mr IC. S. Glendinning. A letter was received frqm the C. M. Ross Coy. offering a trophy for competition among pilots. Mr Edmunds moved that the company he thanked for their offer and that it be accepted. A hearty vote of thanks to the firm was carried by acclamation Mr Edmunds moved that the thanks of the club be placed on record to Messrs R. Linklater and E. W. Barnett (who, under the new Middle Districts Aero Club, would transfer their membership to the Feilding Club) for their services to the Manawatu Aero Club as club captain and committeeman respectively. The president extended to FlyingOfficer G. M. Firth, the newly-ap-pointed pilot-instructor, a very hearty welcome and he hoped that Mr birth s association with the club would be a long and happy one. The president alsr> thanked the club members for their confidence in him, and which had been shown in reappointing him to the office. He assured the members that he would, as before, do all in his power to foster aviation in this district.
COMBINED ACTIVITIES. MIDDLE DISTRICTS CLUB. The first annual meeting of the Middle Districts Aero Club was held immediately after the annual meeting of the Manawatu Aero Club. Those present were Messrs 11. E. Edmunds, R. Linklater, B. Short, J. Penney, E. W. Barnett, J. C. Milne, J. Tantrum, J. B. Smillie, H. R. Lecher, and the provisional secretary, Mr K. G. Clmniherlain. Mr Edmunds briefly outlined the steps that had been taken to bring about the amalgamation of the Feikling, Manawatu and Levin Aero Clubs, to be known in future as the Middle Districts Aero Club, to serve the needs of those districts in aviation. Mr Edmunds also said that he had much pleasure in advising members that after three years of ceaseless effort on the part of the Manawatu Aero Club, tlie Middle Districts Aero Club would now receive the Government subsidy’ and be eligible for the loan of Government machines. The subsidy was payable on each pilot trained between the ages of 17 and 30 years, and was £4O per pilot on the first five and £2o on each pilot in excess of five. A subsidy of £lO per pilot for the first 10 pilots renewing their licenses each year was payable, with a maximum subsidy of £SOO per annum.
