MANAWATU ASSOCIATION. MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The management committee of the Manawatu Lawn Tennis Association met last evening, Mr J. T. McDonald presiding. Also present were Mies B. Horn, Messrs H. N. Watson. L. A. lleichenbach, J. Christie, C. C. Yates, D. I. Robertson, J. Murphy and L. I. Plimmer (secretary). The secretary of the New Zealand Association advised that the question of the Australians. Moon and McGrath, paying a visit to Palmerston North would be placed before the.players on their return to Wellington. McGrath was recovering from an operation for tonsils and a request had been made that tlie men be not asked to play too much. Mr McDonald suggested that the matter be left to Mr Plimmer and himself to endeavour to arrange a visit to Palmerston North, and it was decided to adopt this course. Tlie secretary of the New Zealand Association advised that there were two professional coaches in Wellington and one in Wanganui.—Received. The Poliangina Club advised that it could not support any proposal for coaches being arranged. The secretary advised that this was the only reply received to the recent inquiry, although he had been advised verbally of enthusiasm for tlie proposal at Levin. It was decided that the matter _l>e held in abeyance pending the receipt of additional indications from the clubs. The Palmerston North Technical Evening Students’ Club advised the association of their withdrawal fronv the Wednesday and Saturday competitions owing to decreasing membership. The Aokautere Club advised the association of its withdrawal from the country competition. . The secretary commented that the competitions would require to be reorganised, Pahiatua also having withdrawn. The Otaki Club advised that its active membership stood at 16 men and 22 ladies. Ttfe club was working on an overdraft and would appreciate any possible reduction in fees. It- was decided to reply regretting the association’s inability to reduce the fees in the meantime.

It was decided that the Shannon Club’s match with Foxton be played on January 25. Arrangements were discussed for the association’s tournament on January 18 and 22, and it was eventually resolved that the. programme comprise men’s and women’s handicap singles, men’s and women’s championship singles, men’s championship doubles and women’s handicap doubles. The scale of fees was fixed as follows: —Men’s and women’s championship singles, 3s; men’s championship doubles, 2s 6d each; men’s and women’s handicap singles, 2s ; women s handicap doubles, 2s each. Mr Watson referred to the Christie Cup ‘match with Hawke’s Bay (holders), expressing- the ouinion that it was too great a distance to travel to Hastings. He thought that the compliment should be extended Manawatu of playing at Dannevirke. Tlie local association were not, in any case, bound to meet Hawke’s Bay for the cup. It was eventually decided to advise the Hawke’s Bay Association along the lines suggested. . It was decided to communicate with the Hutt Valley Association, conveying appreciation of the recent weekend match at Palmerston North. In this connection it was decided to convey to Mrs McDonald appreciation of her arranging of the catering.
