ST. JOHN AMBULANCE

PRESENTATION OF CERTICATES. A pleasing function took place in the supper room of the Opera House, last evening, when the annual presentation of certificates won during the year by members of the St. John Ambulance. Association took place. The superintendent, Mr L. H. Lewis, presided. Prior to the business of the evening being entered upon, Mrs Essex, lecturer for the home nursing section, was presented with a bouquet as a mark of the members’ appreciation of her services. In the absence of the Mayor (Mr A. E. Mansford) and Deputy-Mayor (Mr J.' Hodgens, M.P.), the certificates were presented by Mr K. G. Chamberlain, secretary of the sub-centre. Mr Chamberlain made complimentary reference to the work being carried out by Mr Lewis and Mrs Essex, and said it was due to their enthusiasm and forethought that the movement was kept going. Mr Chamberlain expressed Ins pleasure in being present and offered his congratulations to the members for the good marks received and the excellent work put in during the year. The speaker also paid tribute to the doctors who gave of their valuable time to act as lecturers and examiners. The following were the certificates presented: HOME NURSING. Misses L. Bennett, G. Whitehead, R. Davis, J. Johnston, M. Davis, J. T. Funston, L. Davis, Mr L. H. Lewis. FIRST AID. Messrs A. J. Furness, A. W. Marsh, J. C. Archer, R. L. Ewart, F. Burlace, W. J. Gardener, F. L. Kirk, 1. J. Burden, A. E. Baker, A. W. Archer, E. Quick, C. Earl, H. S. Archer, M. Burden, Mrs M. L. Morgan, Miss P. Johnson, Mrs F. Murray, Mrs W. Holmes, Miss N. Davis, Messrs E. Miller. R. A. Coates, K. Fletcher, E. G. Edwards, W. Eccleston, G. M. Barlow, R. J. Batchelor. Mr E. Quick had the distinction ot gaining full marks in the practical " Supper was later enjoyed and the gathering terminated with votes ot thanks and the exchange of good wishes.
