POLICY OF CO-OPERATION
PREMIER’S DECLARATION.
(By Telegraph—Special to Standard.! WELLINGTON Dec. 9. Tlie Cabinet meetings of the new Government will be resumed to-morrow, as it is its intention to formulate at an early date instructions for the law drafting officers on which the legislation will be prepared for the new year session. This may be expected to include only some of the outstanding £oints in the policy enunciated by the labour Party during the recent election campaign, a number of other matters being left for future consideration. The Ministers today have been busy making personal contacts. Both the Prime Minister and the Minister of Finance have received courtesy calls from the heads of the banking and other financial institutions. This was mentioned by the Prime Minister with, the comment that it was desirable to get the co-operation of those who are providing the services. “There may be differences of opinion,” he added, “but we can only deal with that if it arrives. We do not meet trouble half-way, and there is no indication of trouble at present. Our ideal is co-operation, and we will have to give some evidence of it on our own side.” With a view to discussing in a preliminary way the future public works policy, the Minister of Public V orks (Hon. It. Semple) held a conference with departmental heads to-day. Intelviewed, Mr Sempe said lie liad been impressed with the calibre of the men controlling the department, and he was convinced that he would receive their hearty co-operation in the difficult work ahead.
