FARMING NEWS.
RURAL HAKIJSGS. The Scottish Farmer announces that Mr S. Young, Ballocli Farm, Croy, has sold his well-known two-year-old stallion Ravenseroft (22575) for export to Otago. The horse has been shipped from Glasgow. Favoured by the fine weather, Waikato farmers have made good headway with ensilage and haymaking over the last week, reports a Hamilton correspondent. Activity at Horotiu freezing works is steadily increasing, lambs now coming forward in good numbers, and the killing trade is fast approaching its peak, with daily increasing numbers ot pigs being handled. Encouraged by this week's summer weather, fanners in the Franklin district have now commenced the season’s haymaking, which will probably continue until the end of January. Crops in some eases have been disappointing, although many good paddocks of grass have been cut. Crops in the southern end of the district appear to bo heavier than those closer to Auckland. Ensilage making was started some weeks ago. The paddocks have made a remarkable recovery from the poor condition in which they stood before the winter rams set in.
