PORT OF PATEA.

SUGGESTED ABOLITION. HAWERA, Dec. 6. A suggestion made at Stratford recently that, the port at Patea should be abolished and all trade done through New Plymouth was considered by the South Taranaki executive of the Farmers’ Union at Hawera yesterday. Al-. though no action was taken the opinion was freely expressed that such would be disastrous to South Taranaki.

Thousands of pounds have been invested at Patea, and the position should be closely watched, said Mr E. J. Betts.

Mr W. A. Sheat, the president, said that the port was beneficial to the whole province.
