THE POST OFFICE.
Improvement of the facilities for public business, and generally for the administration of the money order and savings bank branch of the Chief Post Office in Palmerston North, which the- Department has ordered to be carried out, will be appreciated by all people who have to visit this very busy section of the office. For a long time past if has been patent that the accommodation has been insufficient, and the intimation given to the annual meeting of the Chamber of Commerce, that plans to give effect to much needed alterations are being prepared, must have been the very best news it has received for some time. The growth of Palmerston North in recent years has followed the steady trend manifest over a long period, and in that time the business of the Post Office has developed in proportion. The consequence is that facilities which were sufficient ten years ago are now inadequate for the transaction of business, and it is pleasing that the Department has recognised this and intends to enlarge the particular department mentioned. It will mean the expedition of business for the public and more congenial conditions for tlie employees. The city has been excellently served by the officers of the Department, and the present staff are actuated by a high desire to facilitate the transaction of business and to make their office the most efficient possible. The public are appreciative of tins fact and regard their Chief Post Office as a well organised and most competent branch of the public service.
