FAT LAMB COMPETITION.

CARCASEJUDGING. Yesterday afternoon the judging of the lamb carcases entered in the Feilding group competition of the New Zealand Meat Board’s export fat lamb competition was completed, the judge being Mr J. Drysdale, Meat Board inspector. The placings in the carcase competition were as follow:

W. H. Burrell (Feilding) 1, Short Estate (Feilding) 2 and 3, R. J. McDonald (Ashhurst) 4. Commenting oil the carcases, Mr Drysdale said there was little between the first and second pens, both being of outstanding quality. The exhibits generally had been of good marketable type and, although not showing quite the same bloom, were better than last year’s. The number of entries was very pleasing to the judge, and he was satisfied that the 15 selected pens from the group would make a good showing on the London market competition. The following were the owners of the 15 pens selected to comprise the group exhibit in London: —Messrs A. J. Wealleans, E. A. Twigg, J. M. Campbell, R. McDonald, Short Estate, Messrs W. G. Booth, W. H. Cornfoot, W. H. Burrell, L. A. J. Henson, H. A. Stewart, Quintin Wilson, Ormond Wilson, Flock House Station, Messrs Pearce and B. S'. Lawrence.

Prior to the conclusion of the judging, Mr Jas. Knight, on behalf of the Feilding A. and P. Association, thanked all who had assisted in the successful issue of the gathering. He particularly thanked Messrs Thos. Borthwick and Sons, Ltd., for placing their freezing works, at the disposal of the association and also for donating the six guineas in prize money for the carcase competition and for providing refreshments. Thanks were also extended to Messrs Fletcher and Coy. for their donation of £6 6s for the live judging. To the judges, Mr V. Robinson (Carterton) and Mr J. Drysdale (Wellington), who with the two firms mentioned had shown such a practical interest in the competition, Mr Knight also tendered the association’s thanks. Their co-operation, together with the splendid support of the exhibitors, had made the competition the success it had been.
