PAHIATUA.

PAHIATUA, Nov. 20. ' The annual sports of the Pahiatua District High School were held on the sportsground to-day. The cold weather and soft track made things rather unpleasant for the young competitors. The office of starter was filled by Mr G. Stafford, and Mr Slater undertook the organising and control of the fixture. The adjudicating tapes were in the hands of Mrs Beales and Miss McCardie, and Miss Junkers was the recorder. The results of the championships are as follow:—Primary boys 100 yards championship: C. Tataurangi 1. S. Beales 2, A. Carrad 3. Secondary boys 100 yards: R. Prussing 1, P Watts 2, J. Barraclough 3. Primary girls 50 yards: J. Watson 1, P. Gunn 2, P. Phillips 3. Secondary girls 50 yards: G. Bissett 1, C. Boyd 2, J. Mason 3. Primary girls 100 yards: J. Watson 1, P. Gunn 2, P. Phillips 3. Secondary girls 100 yards: G. Bissett 1, C. Boyd 2, J. Mason 3. A special meeting of the committee of the Pahiatua Swimming Club was held last evening. The secretary (Mr W. R. Richardson) reported that the finances showed a credit of approximately £ll, despite the fact that no subsidy whatever was received from the Borough Council last season. The baths were officialily open for 18 weeks, the longest period on record. It was agreed to call applications immediately for the position of caretaker. It was suggested that the executive committee be limited to seven or nine in future; as in the past it bad been too unwieldy. It was decided to recommend to the annua] meeting that the executive committee in future be limited to seven members, including the president, secretary and treasurer (ex officio). The president (Mr J. A. Walsh) intimated that ho intended to relinquish his position. All the members present expressed regret at losing Mr Walsh’s services and said he had done much for the young people of Pahiatua.

A most pleasant afternoon was spent by members and visitors at the monthly meeting of the Pahiatua Women’s Institute yesterday. Mrs J. D. Wilson presided. Mrs W. Bentley read a report of the conference held at Hamua in October. The president made an appeal for donations to be forwarded to the Porirua Hospital, which was generously supported by the members. The- remainder of the meeting took the form of a social afternoon. Mr G. H. W. Hamilton, of the exchange staff of the local Post and Telegraph Department, lias been transferred to Iviinbolton. Mr P. A. Moriarty, who has acted as messenger ip the office for the past 18 months, now moves up to the position of exchange clerk, vice Mr Hamilton.
