Brace and Spiers were the two most successful batsmen, securing 47 (retired) and 27 (retired) respectively. United’s two opening batsmen did not get properly, into their stride—their wickets were down for 12 runs —but J. Gallichan and Lynch made a determined stand, the former securing a good 37.
