REV. DR COURTENAY C. WEEKS DISSOCIATES HIMSELF FROM THE PROHIBITIONISTS.

The Rev. Dr Courtenay C. Weeks, in his capacity as Director of the National Temperance League, gave evidence on behalf of the Organised Temperance Forces of England and Wales before the Royal Commission on Licensing as follows :

In reply to the question, “Do you wish to limit by legislation the consumption of alcohol to commercial and medicinal purposes?” Dr Weeks said, “If by your question you mean, do I advocate prohibition, the answer is no.”

In reply to a further question Dr Weeks said, “I have neither advocated prohibition, nor have I worked for it.”

Because Dr Weeks is a well known total abstainer his name has erroneously been used in prohibition propaganda. Unfortunately there are still some people who cannot appreciate the diii'erence between voluntary total abstinence and compulsory total abstinence. Every man and woman interested in the advancement of true temperance will cast a vote for Continuance by striking out the two bottom lines.— Advt.
