STAND FOR LIBERTY
UNIQUE TRIBUTE TO PRESS. BY SIR ISAAC ISAACS. GUARDIAN OF DEMOCRACY. t (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received November 20, 8.5 a.m. SYDNEY, Nov. 20. “I wish to pay a tribute to the unknown journalist who penned the terse, true, and telling aphorism that the greatest stand for liberty that the world has ever known has been the inkstand,” said the Governor-General (Sir Isaac Isaacs) at a luncheon tendered to him by the Australian Journalists’ Association. ‘‘The Press of the British Commonwealth of Nations, and nowhere more so than in Australia,” he added, ‘‘is a powerful protector of individual rights, a sure guardian of Democracy, the safeguard of which is so very important to true understanding between the nations and a firm citadel of loyalty to King and country.”
