MAGISTRATE’S COURT.

At the Alagistrate’s Court to-day, before Mr J. L. Stout, S.AI., a young man, 20 years of age, whose name was ordered to be suppressed, was charged with having committed a serious assault on a girl of 11 years and 11 months. Air J. Al. Gordon appeared for accused and entered a plea of guilty. Counsel stated that accused came of a good family and nothing previously was known against him. He asked that he be admitted to probation. On ascertaining that no report had been made by the probation officer the Magistrate stood the case down till Friday morning, so that a report could be obtained. “It is only in an exceptional caee that I can grant probation, and accused had better remain in custody in the meantime,” added th« Aiagistrate.
