GLEN OROUA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) GLEN OROUA, Nov. 18. A euchre party and dance organised by the chairman (Air H. J. Lancaster) and committee of the Social Club, was bold in the hall on Thursday night in order to raise funds for the school tennis court. It was anticipated that the function would be more than ordinarily successful, but anticipations wore greatly exceeded in that a record crowd attended from all parts of the district. The euchre prizes wero won by Aire L. H. Ihle and Mrs \V. Boswell in the ladies’ section, while the successful men were Messrs P. Farland and A. Carroll. The professional orchestra engaged by the club during the season was again in attendance to supply dance music, while Air L. H. Ihle carried out tho duties of AI.C. Several competitions w*ere conducted, the following being the winners: Spot waltz, Airs \Y Locke and Air C. Donovan; Alontc Carlo waltz, Aiiss R. ARckay and partner; Lucky Gay Gordons, Miss V. Hobbs and Mr M. Ward; other competitions, AJr J. Wheeler; and Afr T. Lawlor. After supper, Air H. J. Lancaster thanked those present for their attendance and also tho donors of the various prizes and all. who had assisted in making the evening so successful. Those specially mentioned wero Airs Lancaster, Aiiss Harris, Air and Mrs W. Boswell, Mrs W. Sexton and Aiiss Al. Soxton for trophies, and Air H. J. Kirkham for running a free bus Air Lancaster stated that the function had been most successful financially, tho profit amounting to 113 Is’ 10d - Thl s was later found to be less than the amount actually realised, the check-over showing (bat £l4 12s 10d was the amount to be devoted to tho school tennis clubs funds. Mr W H Foster, chairman of tho School Committee thanked Air Lancaster and the members of the Social Club for their assistatTho Social Club has received acknowledgment through the local P 0^1 " 8^ o*’ 0 *’ 1 H Ihle, from the Post and Iclegiaph Department of tho recent fine effort in aid of the health stamp campaign. , , Recent visitors to tho district included Mr E 11. Lange, chief agricultural instructor of the Wanganui Education Board; Airs 11. Benson, of Wellington, who has been spending a holiday with her sister, Mrs 1. Lawlor; and Mr A. T. Parlanc, of the Auckland telegraph office, who has been on a holiday visit to his brother, Mr b. U. iarlane. . , , , Alcmbcrs of the Tennis Club were able to avail themselves of an afternoon s play in beautifully fine weather on Saturday, after a fortnight’s rain. The school playground, which would ordinarily have resembled a quagmire following the amount of rain that has fallen recently, is now available for use in all weathers owing to the largo area of concrete put down earlier in the yejr by the members of the School Committee.
